Por lo pronto, la fiscal Gisela Paolicelli dispuso el arresto preventivo del suboficial de policía que acudió en auxilio de Cejas y de su madre, y el secuestro de su pistola reglamentaria.
La madre de Cejas, de nombre Ana María, no declaró haber escuchado un disparo. Solo observó que los delincuentes golpearon a su hijo, pero fue en la guardia del Español donde hallaron que la víctima tenía un orificio de bala en el tórax.
